Always keep on praying – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

God created us for relationship with Him and prayer is core to taking us from strangers to intimate friends with God. Prayer is simply talking and listening to God. While Jesus was here on earth he set his followers a perfect example of how prayer was to be part of their lives. He even taught them how to pray.

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

Beginning on Sunday 28th April, just after Easter, we are calling our whole church to prayer for 40 day. We are going to thank God for his faithfulness in the last 40 years of our church and believe God for increase in the next 40 years as we impact our world, community and church. We will learn how to pray with more confidence and greater faith than ever before.

“Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hope”s – Ephesians 3:20

Often prayer is between us and God but throughout Christian history, we continually see that communal prayer has a supernatural strength all its own. The first believers in Jesus all gathered together in an upper room in constant prayer, and then came the power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Later in the book of Acts, the believers were all gathered together in prayer when Peter’s miraculous deliverance from prison took place, and at another communal prayer meeting, their prayers were evidently so powerful that the entire house was shaken.

Life Groups will be meeting each week for the whole of the 40 days.

Next Steps

Our hope is that 40 days of prayer will help us become consistent in our conversations with God. One thing is certain: The more we pray, the more our faith will increase – because God not only hears our prayers, he answers them. And as we see God answer our prayers, provide for our needs, and open new doors, we’ll develop a confidence that God is listening and that he cares.
